Joining this group of misfits and outlaws had certainly not been on Roche's agenda, though it could be said that stranger things happen at sea... or overseas considering current locations and climates. The dry heat of Cosmo Canyon wasn't agreeing with his complexion in any case.

Still, were it not for a certain yellow haired doppelganger and his ailments Roche would no doubt still be writhing beneath the heavy weight of ShinRa's proverbial thumb. Amusing really, how freedom did indeed come with an exuberant price above ones head. Very little doubts that the company was out to hunt him down as a deserter, him and this little band of tearaways.

The former Third wouldn't change his circumstances for all the tea in Wutai, it had to be said. There was something rather joyful about tearing pathways for brightly coloured chocobo in the sands of the Vale. Cloud Strife was eating his dust, in a literal sense it would seem, while his brother would supposedly find more solace from the corruption of his airways seated upon Sleipnir's pillion.

Today, however had been deemed a day of rest from their unlikely leader, whom Roche found in the place in which he'd left him at their current encampment high in the crags; seated upon a single jut of rock and scratching feverishly at the lump of wood he'd had since that morning. The boy was anxious, that much was obvious even to the untrained eye, perhaps for the other parts of his person who resided within the shelter of the tents, his already injured throat ripped raw by the grit known to blow about the plains.

He killed Sleipnir's engine before opening his mouth to speak, and was yet interrupted by the offering Cloud placed upon the broad case of the chassis. Rough around the edges and yet so detailed all the same, Roche would be stunned into an aspired silence as he plucked the little fox from the bike's body, turning it over in his hands.

There was something so very endearing about the wooden sculpture; one of a kind, handmade in a time of hardship and worry, a treasure whittled to such a delicate finish by the fingers of a man who once cleaved an entire motorcycle in two with little more than a single swing of his sword.

"A man of many talents, hm~? A smile and not a single caustic tone to be heard before he's carefully setting that wooden fox back onto the Sleipnir's chassis.

"I have offerings of my own! The foragers quest was bountiful this glorious morn!" Boasting out of the way he would unhook the over stuffed pouch from his belt and toss to land at Cloud's feet, smile widening, maddeningly so as he leaned dramatically close to the blond sat before him still.

SANGUINIUS REBIRTH AU!

To preface this i am not well versed in the books, i dont have the money to afford them, and the entire concept hinges on the rule of cool (which is par for the course i imagine!)

Takes place during the events of "The devastation of Baal"

A canon divergence, in which the hive fleet is capable of breaching the Blood angels' main chapel and reaching Sanguinius' tomb.

It's engulfed in a case of molten gold but I don't think that ever stopped tyranids from having a good snack.

And a good snack they have!

From what I've read about online, tyranids cannot replicate the powers of warp-based entities, so I humored the idea that the consumption of warp tainted flesh might have some jarring side effects on them.

The change is not sudden, only noticable upon the second wave, the tyranids are a formidable foe, for sure have gained some power up from the angel's body, wings and other boosts.

They also begun to cannibalise eachother, courtesy of the red thirst. A flaw in the gene that was impossible to seperate from the useful parts.

Present hive tyrants become compromised too, in spite of their resistance to Daemons, they are seized by a force that runs through the Angel's very DNA.

It compromises the swarm, leading to a swift dispatch. Not before they caused some significant damage.

The reason for Sanguinius' return would be spurred on by the death of a major character: Dante. Another canon divergence, when sanguinius talks to dante as he's dying, he doesnt revive him.

Seeing that the Hive has killed his most prized son using his genes as a template, he takes matters into his own hands, and allows the man to finaly, FINALY rest. However, as much as it pained him, he had to consume his soul to gain the power necessary to influence the materium.

Which is how he managed to manipulate the mutated tyranids into being more vulnerable! Bypassing their immunity to the warp by manipulating the very genetic material they stole from him (and which he could still exert his influence onto).

However, due to some inexplicable reason, perhaps the primarch in him desiring to live once more. Like a virus, posessing a wayward cell to produce more of its kind, the body of the Angel was reconstructed using tyranid biomass (It was NOT part of his plan, he blames his subconscious. Or perhaps an eargerness to escape the chaos gods' pestering..)

Congratulations! Its a sanguinius! I muse to myself, im glad the tyranids dont have the capacity to feel body horror.

Alternatively: his body was simply consumed whole by a large tyranid and he used that as a starting point to patch everything up

What follows suit im not sure, but 3 possibilities:

1) In the aftermath, while surveying the carnage, Guilliman senses the unmistakable aura of his brother, and cuts him out of the bowels of the beast.

2) he is discovered by a team of blood angels sent to recover the body of the fallen, they become highly protective of him and might keep his discovery under wraps, in fear of misunderstanding (which is understandable, a primarch that popped out of a tyranid is highly suspicious)

3) Crawled out on his own. Discovered by a group of nomads while he was aimlessly wandering the Baal desert.

And yea, thats all!

Like? We can all agree, that, all other factors aside? Given the life he's lived and the personality he has? The sheer NONSENSE he's been exposed too (from rays to oozes to powders to magics etc) AND the by definition unfinishable nature of his Life's Work/Obsession?

If Batman lived in a world connected to Danny Phantom's Zone in any way... he's DEFINITELY becoming a Realms Ghost.

Like? It's not even a "possibly" here. It's an inevitability. He HAS to protect just one more person. HAS to solve one more case. HAS to protect his kids one last time. He HAS Too, HAS Too, HAS Too.

He's Batman.

It's etched into his soul. The man's ghost will literally REFORM in that outfit. Batman with a glow. Batman the protection spirit. Kindness and grief and an eternity of "I have to save just one more."

He's not going to get to die peacefully or rest quietly. It would go against his nature.

But! Why is this relevant? Because of the Elseworld stories. Those AUs. The Multi-Verse at large. They ALL... Have Batman.

Consider: Ember McClain. Rocker. Remember that name. Yes, in some worlds she makes it big. But? Tragedy and betrayal in others. Death. Do you think the Ember's of those worlds are fine with passing on silently? Shrugging and being forgotten just because some other Ember got there first?

No. They are Ember. SHE is Ember.

Just as Clockwork is Time.

What makes a Realms Ghost different then someone like Deadman? Than a Shade? A poltergeist? Your average spook?

They are only themselves.

Singular.

Small.

A tiny little fraction, of a fraction, of a part, of a small bitty droplet, if even that. You only get one soul. But! You share it. There are many "You"s. Like the universe itself, exploding out, to live, to experience, BE, and then collapsing back together in the end. Running together like rainwater in the cracks of Realitys. Seeping back into one piece, one person, in the place between places.

It's why one forgets silly things like Names and Pasts. You had so, so many. All of them were yours. Made you. Shaped you. But are not why you refuse to let go. Why you still EXSIST. Outside of Creation and Rebirth, beyond any gods you could possibly recognize. Refined to your truest SELF.

Yet... you might still be Alive. You know that you ARE. Time exists for the living. To balance beginnings, middles, and ends. Why do you care? They aren't you yet. They will be. All of you will eventually come together. You'll become something... MORE.

Ancient.

The wisdom and complexity of a complete Being. More a Person then your average soul. Like giant stars compared to a barely burning dwarves. You know, assuming you don't give up first. Most give up. It takes a certain sort of patience, after all. A LOT of timeless time. Kinda sucks.

Yet! We consider The Bat. Persistence and Stubborn Hope made manifest. Compassion born of terrible grief. Dead. Again and again and again. Dead for those who needed him. Who hated him. Who cursed or forgot or lamented him. In every imaginable age, a story played out the same. Ending the same.

Himself instead of another.

Himself FOR the others.

Himself because none other could.

Sacrifice and Sacrifice and Sacrifice. Desperation to save. Worlds burning and cities falling. Waking up, reaching out, to shield sons and daughters that are not there. That live because he does not. Dragging himself through the stubborn walls of world after world, like a haunting final curse, upon those who harmed his family, his city. His world.

A wraith. Gothams final curse upon those who damn her.

What must it be like? To keep saying good bye? To drag your aching soul, fuller and fuller of terrible memories, across the fields of jagged glass that are portals you tear, to world's on fire. Just to save friends and family. Enemies and strangers. All of whom, must in the end... bury you anyway.

Because you must kill the hope in their eyes. Must die before them again. Because you can not stay and they can not come with you. Or worse... they can, and will soon.

Sitting on fields of battle where you tried. Gave all your spirit could muster. But... it's over now. And all you can offer is the knowledge is that they should not be afraid. You will carry them home.

And are there? Nightwings and Robins and all manner of other family, waiting back in the Zone? In a Manor where Pennyworth lives eternal? Do they also hurt and fight to save their friends? Each new piece of them coming with some great tragedy that they must put right?

Do they give Walker and the Observants migraines? Probably.

Imagine, though: Time travel added to the mix. Dying in the future. Your son managing to turn everything back to before the world ended. The Ghost King is suddenly a Baby again. Every one is freaking out. "Oh no! The king!" Blah blah blah.

But you and your family are more concerned about the world ending threat that kills a part of you. So is the baby ghost king, when you tell him. You show up in your own Cave, freak yourself out. Team up time. Though you ARE growing concerned by the Baby Kings self-neglectful behaviors. Hey, Me, are you seeing this?

.......he.... you know, he COULD use more Parental Oversight. He's a good kid. Seems lonely though. Underfed. ("BRUCE, NO." "Hmmm.")

I got some interesting question in mind after having watched secret/bonus content in ISAT.

Apparently, the Change God really DOES exist and has interacted with Mirabelle and Siff (quite mean to our smoll Siff >:( ).

So, I'm wondering if he told the party about his/her/their existence, and what that would mean for the world(is there other deities???) !

Uh, does the people of the Island believes in a god? the Universe maybe? I don't the Elders are, more likeguiding spirit? I dunno, I'm not well versed in Sky's lore.

Ooohh man I got stuff to say about this BUT! It’s technically big spoiler for the end of the comic so like, If you want I’ll write it under the cut.

So the Change god is a form of deity/energy similar to the Megabird in Sky. The 2 deities are more connected than you might imagine though.

For the people of the island the Universe will always come first, since the Megabird is the creator of stars and so of their energy, but the Change god is what made it possible for everything to transform into different things. So the 2 of them are like the material and the molder.

People from the island also unconsciously follow in a way the Change god by taking part every year in the Cycle.

Basically the whole rebirth thing that happens in Sky that you can do every week is a yearly ritual for every person on the Island. On their birthday, they will meditate at the Eden realm elder temple (that is now destroyed) and they’ll go back to Orbit to gain a new winged light. That is why the number of wedged you have in the AU is equal to your age range. While in Orbit they can also use the high level of craft energy present there to change their appearence like a new haircut or outfit (the equivalent of having the closet available there in the game) They will then fall back from the sky always in the same spot as they fell the first time.

So rebirth in a way is the ultimate change you could go throught to be able to gain more energy and to become closer to the Light (again, the Universe)

Their friend he'd very nearly murdered... A thought all in itself which forced Cloud's entire demeanour in that moment to droop about the shoulders.

Only then did the gravity of it all begin to weigh heavy, and it's all he can do to just drop his gaze into the space between them.

"Too scared to have a talk with a friend? This isn't like you." Red's ears tilted back, wrinkles deepening between his eyes. His paws squared firmly into the ground, with his marred shoulder facing the mercenary. His tail was low, and still. It spoke of tension.

"Nothing I saw back in that reactor really looked like you, in fact. You slaughtered those grunts. You attacked Tifa." His head tilted lower. "You didn't even hold your sword the way you always do."

That previous post reminded me of an old AU I played around with for a second. It's called Sonic Rebirth and used to be part of my Sonic-verse! Not anymore though.

(Inerste is a concept thought up in that YT video I was talking about. Can't remember who made it.)

So in this AU, the Duke of Soleana is alive in the present day and during that big parade thing in 06 (Called the Rite of Rebirth here), he splits Solaris apart in an attempt to bring his wife back. Each of the three pieces of Solaris seek refuge inside each of the Triple S Trio hogs. Mephiles possesses Sonic, Iblis possesses Silver, and Inerste possesses Shadow. The Duke is killed and the power to reforge Solaris is given to Elise (but they don't know this until later).

I've got notes for this AU past that, but mostly what you should know is Sonic and Elise are searching for answers while Mephiles keeps taking control of Sonic's body as he tries to find and merge with Iblis, Silver keeps loosing control of Iblis and going on fiery rampages as Blaze tries to help him, and Inerste is the only one here who's actually good and just wants to reunite with Mephiles and Iblis and also help Shadow open up and acknowledge his emotions.

(Also should be noted in this AU that if Mephiles and Iblis reunite without Inerste there, they will be come a husk of Solaris bent on destruction, with no regard for humanity. Inerste is what gives Solaris his emotions, his compassion, his heart. If it's only Mephiles and Iblis, Solaris will have nothing holding him back from destroying everything in revenge, which is what Mephiles wants.)

OK SO ANYWAY. My main girl i keep thinking about, thanks to this blog, is my dbd final girl oc Sam, because she's just *chefs kiss* my favorite sad girl/mad girl, i stick her in so many aus, i give her so much trauma, ugh i love her!

She's a suicidal depresso teen all grown up (ranging in age depending on the au, from 18 to 24, but primary dbd verse she's just shy of 21). In universes without supernatural shit, she's attempted suicide a few times and never fully succeeded (but has tattoos to commemorate her attempts, including dates). In universes WITH supernatural shit, there's maybe a *reason* she can't die (she started as a character made for a rp where she was supposed to be the embodiment of the mythical phoenix).

In the Dead By Daylight universe, she got to the Fog by killing herself (her choker covers a scar across her throat, and she usually wears long sleeves or sweatbands to cover scars up her wrists), and one of her abilities is literally rebirth on bleeding out. Basically, I wanted a character who wants to die but isn't being allowed the peace of death. It's all about resilience, baby, it's all about catharsis and the purging of emotion through anger and pain and sex ok sometimes also sex.

Her main fic she's paired with Legion (Frank) and it's literally the source of my unfortunate puppy kink (he calls her puppy to be an asshole; she hates it; I love that for her). I got to write the intimacy of murder and I fuckin loved it. And then I made a rp blog, and she got to have soooo many other fun interactions and flirtations and fucked up ships (it's not snuff if they come back, okay, it's just a little murder in a universe with impermanent death), including an EXTENDED RELATIONSHIP ARC of hundreds of pages with a friend's ghostface muse [henceforth murder bf]— and then we did a ton of aus with those muses, including a college au before she became quite so jaded (so pre-institutionalization), and a couple different 'yoinked and chained up in a basement' aus that i adore, and a purge au where murder bf stages someone to come assault her so he can look like a hero for killing the guy and then offer her a place in his bunker for the night, and—

MY FAVORITE au, that I swear I'll turn into a novel some day, where they're both shapeshifters and we created an entire societal thing where shifters make up like some fraction of a percent of the population and there's a lot of fucked up oppression and societal discrimination and Sam is basically the most complicit-in-her-own-oppression self-hating werefox, who ran away after biting a guy who was harassing her, and ends up going lowkey feral and collapsing and needing to get nursed back to health by murder bf who's a human-hating lone wolf (literally) with anarchist/terrorist aims when it comes to humans, and the goal is for them to temper each other a bit (tho still end up more toward his side of center tbh)—

She's my baby, I want to see her suffer, I want to see her put through so much pain only to come out the other side, I just love her so much. I also have some fun stuff where she's pissed off 'Spiteful Sam' and is just a ball of fucking fury, a self destructive mess that is willing to hurt herself just to hurt others. Oh, here's a good example of her getting angry! For context: months later, once murder bf and Sam are officially a thing, she's even living with him in the Fog and everything, a friend and I arranged for her to get kidnapped by a rival ghostface killer, tortured to taunt her ghostface bf, and the rival ended up gouging out her eyes and collaring her before killing her so when she respawned she hadn't gotten the eyes back and is still locked in a collar. So yeah, she's stuck eyeless and frustrated because she wants to fight with her bf to kill some of that anger, and he was being too nice.

I've been writing a supernatural action/drama/romance where I have a vamp boy oc who got exiled by his coven and they filed his fangs down, but pre-exile he was basically treated as an attack dog, mostly fighting and fucking as rewards or punishments based on what his Sire wanted him to do. His name is Cain, he's a former addict (drugs, then vampire venom while he was basically a lackey/whore to get a fix of the intense high and aphrodisiac effect of vampiric venom), now trying desperately to be reformed, laden with so much guilt, and a pathetic excuse for a vampire who has to cut to feed with no fangs. I'm still getting comms of him, but my fave is this fan art by my friend of pre-exile Cain (back before he, how did a former coworker of his describe it? oh yeah "one day decided… what? To grow a conscience? That he was tired of raping and killing and being used like a pet?") (i love a dog motif, i really do).

Anyway, Cain's main universe he's got a complex relationship with a monster hunter (the former quote is from what we dubbed the 'mid-season finale' when she found out he was a vampire and SHOT HIM). But he also has an au where he found another lone (non-coven) vamp and they're slutty switches together and do some fun play with intox (his venom works on his partner by spitting it in his mouth) and telepathy (his partner can project images and feelings into his head). I love him as well, and have appx 600 pages of rp with him lmao.

I also have various OCs I've made for fic, like my Arcane OC Ivy, and then I have THESE FUCKERS I've been meaning to make a whole story about, Santana and Ridley, my cyberpunk crime girlfriends

Santana is a crimelord's daughter (and future crime boss herself, when she eventually breaks out from under her dad's thumb), and Ridley is her bodyguard/girlfriend trained from childhood to be a companion and do everything in her power to keep Santana safe, but she ended up falling REAL FUCKIN HARD for her charge. They have a whole planned story involving attempts on Santana's life, Ridley kicking ass, and Santana becoming part of an experimental program to log her consciousness, and when she eventually does get merc'd (spoilers? i mean it's not even written yet, this is just a plan), Ridley uploads Santana's incomplete AI into her head a la Johnny Silverhand and it's heartbreaking because it's her but it also ISN'T, and it's just overall a tragedy...

Dissidia Darling and JENOVA.

Going back to my last post about it, I've been thinking about the manifestation/rebirth of JENOVA within Darling in the Dissidia AU.

The Darling is essentially undergoing a similar process to what Sephiroth did with JENOVA in the Lifestream on his homeworld: Becoming one with it. And then later on in the AU, she becomes one with Sephiroth. Consider this: Sephiroth has been acting as a mentor to the Darling, shaping her into the ideal doll for him to despise everything and annihilate everything, to love him, to become his everything... This is essentially his SECOND chance to carry out what HE wanted to do in FF7, fulfilling all of his desires with no interference from his puppets and human parasites...

I've been discussing this with a friend, contemplating what Hojo would think of the Dissidia Darling and him doing a funny nature narration on her interactions with Sephiroth xD. I realized he would probably come up with a code name for her, "EVA". It's derived from JENOVA, and is also a partial anagram of it. And it's very symbolic! Within the Dissidia verse, the darling is considered JENOVA's chosen, just as Sephiroth is in his own homeworld. And in essence, she would serve as his Eve and the "mother" for those possessing JENOVA/Sephiroth cells. Bonus points for fitting the Hebrew naming tradition that Sephiroth and JENOVA started too.

Not to mention, Sephiroth would play the role of the tempting serpent quite well. The use of all caps for EVA also serves to dehumanize her further, much like it does for JENOVA.

It's also a more simple codename to use when discussing JENOVA!Dissidia Darling in a meta context.

It's just too perfect~.

Feila usually comes up with domestic KuroEne ideas which are very cute and I enjoy seeing them :3

I usually deal with their canon-verse selves cuz I love writing compelling angst and tragedy <3

I also write more softer scenarios with the days of them staying together while Saeru is acting.

Me: Kuroha/Saeru both in canon, and in my KuroEne AU, is definitely fucked in the head lol

That's what makes him interesting though <3

Toxic but in an interesting and compelling way.

All I care about is that it's interesting and compelling, and that the portrayals are good (well balanced enough, at least as much as possible in Saeru and his S/O's case)

Irt Kuroha/Saeru, his relationships with the MekaDan members are clearly imbalanced. The power balance is ultimately in his favour.

But I still want his ship portrayals to be well portrayed, if that makes sense? Like his S/O still needs to keep their agency and confront him

Me: Saeru is the main villain of KagePro, an evil malicious snake that orchestrates the main cast’s deaths. He’s toxic, evil, unhinged, and insane af. A lot of snakes are venomous :) For sure, he’s fucked in the head.

He’s such a fascinating chara to me to write about and analyze... I really enjoy that KuroEne’s relationship is so messy and complicated, and full of conflict and tension and intensity and danger.

I have KuroEne AU Routes where Kuroha/Saeru keeps his darker tendencies more buried/hidden and decides to play nice and act more tamer with his S/O for their game, prior to the Fated Death Day of August 15th.

His “love” (twisted obsession) is ultimately self-serving, in that he caters to his partner’s desires mainly for his own sake (for the sake of himself). He mainly does it for the sake of feeding his own selfish twisted desires and his ego.

I bet he thinks of it as like, "Humans will do anything for love, isn't that right? :)"

I think the fact that, Saeru deciding to play along to the extent that he intentionally keeps up the facade of living a “happy life” with his S/O (prior to his betrayal) makes it so interesting.

Cuz he clearly enjoyed the time playing the “game” together with his partner as a way to keep himself occupied and entertained. But in the end, he would obviously never compromise his own goals.

As I said before, KuroEne is a ship that’s a dead end. It’s doomed to never grow (due to Kuroha killing the entire cast and forcing Mary to reset the timeline) but that only makes them more interesting to me, personally. Doomed to never grow past the fated/doomed August 15th, but that’s exactly what he wanted :)

Cycle of Life and Death, Rebirth/Renewal and Destruction, it will go on forever endlessly without continuing onto the future. And he’ll do it all over again. The next, next, next time too.

I think it’s incredibly interesting to think about, because in my KuroEne AU, Kuroha/Saeru gained a bit of a semblance of humanity, and a very human-like irony/contradiction of still being willing to “love” a human, despite him both loving and hating humanity.

In my KuroEne AU, Saeru Hebi lashes out against humans/the world because his existence was eventually forgotten/unneeded by Azami anymore and lost his sense of purpose when Azami's wish changed, and decides to rectify this by working towards his own plans (to avoid losing his sentience and thus gain a form of pseudo immortality through the time loops), and have his existence become "necessary/needed" to someone by making his S/O crave him and become addicted to him

Ofc he's unaware/not cognizant of the fact/can't grasp why his existence was deemed unecessary in the first place. So he gained a will and an identity, but lost his sense of purpose. And he resents this fact - losing a purpose.

Again, it reminds me of that FGO: 6th anni interview about Douman where I made the comparison with Saeru.

How Douman originally didn't have an identity/will, but gained one due to constantly being thwarted by the FGO MC and thus went from incomprehensible to defeatable.

Ironically, with him (Saeru) gaining an objective, he gained the human-like struggle to survive and preserve itself.

In my AU, he knows he wants to make his S/O addicted to him. So he is aware of that at least. He’s just not cognizant of his own flaws

Right? Cuz his logic is that he can keep his pseudo immortality by repeating/looping the 2 years of love for eternity. It's a win win for him. In his own twisted form of love

F: And the fact he can always plan something different each time for a different outcome?? Yeah it'd feel like a dating simulator but the only love interest available is Ene

Me: The Snake of Clearing Eyes was created from the Medusa, Azami’s first and strongest desire to want to know who she was and understand herself better. That’s why Saeru’s Eye Ability, Clearing Eyes, is so encompassing as the embodiment of knowledge due to the nature of Azami’s wish.

But then, when Azami settled down with her family, her wish changed to wanting to stay with her family forever. So he felt like the wish that created him, made his existence/purpose lose meaning, and then he worried he’d lose his sentience and disappear completely without his current Master’s wish sustaining him.

Me: If you think about it this way, Saeru lost his sense of purpose when Azami's wish changed and he was no longer needed. But now he can make his S/O want and crave him and be addicted to him and become the center of their universe, exactly because he knows everything about them and how to make his plans fall into place and succeed.

KuroEne’s angst and tragedy only makes them more interesting to me.

F: So he tried rizzing up a digital malware (Ene), smart move... I guess? (He has reasons, I know, but the idea out of context is funny)

This is lowkey manipulation, but not bad manipulation, he at least cares for his S/O while also still being selfish www

Me: Yeah ofc I'm aware. Kuroha/Saeru's actions, in general, are acts of manipulation. Even in canon too (manipulating others so that he can plot and orchestrate the MekaDan members’ deaths so they can come out with Eye Abilities). Manipulative, conniving, and cruel... It's in his nature.

The context of his actions in canon being acts of manipulation obviously wouldn't change either

And this includes my KuroEne AU Routes where he pretends to join the Mekakushi Dan and gain their trust, only to kill them later.

His love is entirely self serving, but he still caters to his S/O's pleasures <3

F: Both sides are happy (but not alive) in the end 🫶

Me: It's so funny in hindsight.

I did say before that in the first KuroEne AU route, he first chooses Ene as a target because she is the person who is most affected by his current vessel, more than anyone else.

I think the first KuroEne AU Route starts with him indulging in his curiosity. He wants to experiment new ways to make the new Routes more fun and decides to indulge in carnal pleasures.

So at first he starts with picking a target. And bingo, Ene is an easy choice due to his vessel. No one is more affected by Haruka (body’s true owner) and Konoha (current vessel) than Takane/Ene. Then it becomes a twisted “love” - an obsessive infatuation. Like in the first KuroEne Route

F: YES BUT THE CONCEPT OUT OF CONTEXT.

How do I explain this to my friends

Saeru lacks the humanity, tenderness, and genuine love that Douman has.

Except Douman is more genuine about it than Saeru (who lacks both humanity and pure love)

Revenge is a Wild Justice: Part one of two monster Game of Thrones fic - An alternate universe where Arya overheard Beric and Thoros talking to Melisandre about selling Gendry and they have enough time to get away. They eventually decide to help and protect the smallfolk during the war as a team. However, their deeds do not go unnoticed by their enemies and, eventually, Arya and Gendry find themselves pulled back into the game of thrones and the fight for the future of Westeros.

Rebirth Is Born of Neither Flesh nor Blood: The last fic in the Ten Years Gone series finished four years after the previous fic was written and eight years after the series was started - Following the incident in Beacon Hills, Derek Hale has started traveling with his sister and with Stiles even though they don't get along that great. His instincts and Laura's are a little messed up after nearly losing each other. They are planning on going on some hunts as a group until things settled down, but Stiles seems uneasy but won't say about what. Stiles is a demon, he often keeps things to himself, but as they move further north along the western coast, Derek begins to get the impression that they are heading into something that could be their biggest test so far.

Needs of the Many: The Old Guard 5 Plus 1 fic technically part of a series I haven't been able to actually start the other parts yet - “A fine justification. I’ve heard it so many times before” were the words Nicky spoke, and they were words he had heard so many times. From Kings claiming that the world would be better if they ruled to murders justifying the mass slaughter of people, evil will use the concept of the greater good as justification for their own horrific actions. While The Old Guard had seen that play out throughout history, this wasn't even the first time someone justified hurting them in the name of the greater good. [5 times someone used changing the world or the greater good as a justification to hurt The Old Guard]

The Saddest Thing About Betrayal: The second and final[?] part of my James Bond/Q Crime AU fic, a sequel written nine years after the first fic - It's been five years since criminals Q and James Bond escaped MI6 and Agent 007, Eve Moneypenny, and they have been hard at work. Now the two of them are focused on breaking down drug cartels, terrorist cells, and trafficking rings and robbing them blind, then leading Moneypenny to round up the stragglers. Moneypenny continues to focus on trying to bring in the notorious criminal duo. However, something comes along that disrupts the careful game of cat and mouse the three of them are playing and is going to change all three of their lives forever.

Sleeping Wake/Waking Sleep: My fic Sandman-verse fic that I actually sat in my drafts for over a year because I didn't like it Johanna Constantine and Hob Gadling separately navigate the complexities of stumbling into a relationship with a traumatized godlike being who is only at the beginning of his journey of connecting with humanity. Needless to say, it isn't an easy road for anyone involved.

The Hour of Separation: Technically takes place in the same universe as Sleeping Wake, but can be read as a stand-alone, my entry in the Dead Boy Detectives fandom, which spun wildly out of control - The problem with solving big, flashy cases and going international is that you become well-known. Word came down about everything the Dead Boy Detectives managed to do in Port Townsend, and they have never been busier. The problem with becoming more well-known is that you don't always draw the kind of attention you want. You might jump onto the radar of someone with a grudge just looking for an excuse.

Stolen Stars AU w/@kindan-no-kanojo | Ghoul!Mystic | Myslett Verse

“Well… that wasn’t very kind of you.”

Blood drunken, Mystic stumbled after Scarlett, needing to hold out his arms to maintain his balance. A night to feast freely had unleashed desires he managed to master at a young age. His rebirth in the shell of a Ghoul caused them to corrode his mind like a starved eagle released into a chicken coop.

If there was something to say about the exaggerated splatters of blood upon his pale visage, was that it was obvious his night of free roam had been a success.

Perhaps a bit too much.

He felt numb once again… and heavily intoxicated.

Scarlett glared down the group of unknown Ghouls, the harsh gaze on her expression wrinkled up her features. There was the smell of approaching death, and it wasn’t exactly from the rotting air of Rotingenbelk.

“Red?” Mystic mumbled, his voice hoarse as he turned to the gathered Ghouls.

“So… would you care to explain what exactly you find humorous about this situation?” Scarlett demanded.

How Dreamcatcher’s ‘Demian’ took inspiration from Hermann Hesse’s 1917 novel of the same name

A short lyrical analysis by thaminho (~700 words)

Just looking at the title alone makes it easy enough, for someone who knows the book, to come to the conclusion that it had to have been an inspiration while writing the lyrics, although it still took me a day to make that connection, but what exactly are the thematic and textual parallels?

To start off here’s a quick summary of Hesse’s novel Demian (it’s extremely short and leaves out details not relevant for this analysis):

The book follows the protagonist Emil Sinclair’s life from his early school years up until young adulthood. He starts off as having a strict dialectical world-view: His secure and familiar home-life represents the proper and devout, the unfamiliar, forbidden and sinful side however seems more alluring to him; Sinclair is first confronted with this second side by being bullied in school.

Eventually an older student, Max Demian, saves him from this situation and becomes a sort of mentor figure for him. Over time, guided by Demian, Sinclair begins questioning the current antiquated world-views and societal norms, straying more and more from Christianity/Christian purity. While meeting more like-minded individuals he realizes, that a fundamental, societal shift of the whole system has to happen and that it can only happen through its destruction and eventual rebirth.

Trying to find his own path in life, free from conditioned thinking and biases, still guided by Demian (among others) this shift happens: The First World War breaks out. Demian and Sinclair both get recruited and wounded in battle. Seeing Demian pass away Sinclair realizes he doesn’t need him as external guidance anymore, he has become one with him, having taken an important step of individuation.

Now to compare the book plot to the song lyrics. As reference I used my own translation of the song which you can also find on my blog or through the link at the bottom of this post; the text in 'air-quotes' are literal quotes from that translation.

In both works you can find a personal plot line as well as an over-arching more general one; I’ll start with the former:

As in the beginning of the novel the speaker of the song is in a miserable situation, their ‘mind obscured’, and looks towards a Demian to guide them (Verse 1: ‘Stay with me tonight this is a nightmare’). They want him to ‘stay with [them] forever’ until ‘the end of the world’ because they are ‘only filled with rage’ and need guidance.

However, they are hinting at a future without someone to guide them by implying their Demian ‘seem[s] like a fantasy’ but will disappear eventually, as ‘reality is spiteful’, thereby referencing Demian’s death and the speakers need to find their own path alone, which in the situation the speaker is currently in still seems unachievable.

Interwoven between these verses are the ones referencing the novel’s more general plot of societal change: They need to ‘break this elaborate [system]’ in order for it to change, this dysfunctional system putting people in ‘difficult situations’ that make them ‘corrupt each other’, where there is ‘evil growing on its own’.

While in the novel the system refers to an extremely traditionalistic, Christian puritan culture devoid of any so-called earthly pleasures, room for creative development and ultimately humanity, the system in this song might refer to the pollution of earth as driver for climate change, thereby tying the song to the rest of Dreamcatcher’s Apocalypse albums. That’s also the reason for the appeal-like verses telling the listeners directly never to stop fighting as small action are all it takes to continue (see Verse 2).

Lastly the line ‘breaking the egg’ in the pre-chorus might seem weird at first or like a translation error, however it is directly referencing the most famous quote of the novel.

„Der Vogel kämpft sich aus dem Ei. Das Ei ist die Welt. Wer geboren werden will, muss eine Welt zerstören“, which translates to

“The bird fights its way out of the egg. The egg is the world. Who wants to be born has to destroy a world”

It symbolizes the epiphany, that the necessary massive societal change is tied to an equally massive sacrifice at the expense of the current system. While in the novel the anachronistic, stiffly conservative culture is destroyed by the First World War, one can only imagine what kind of destruction event the lyricist of this song had in mind for the current capitalism-based pollution system.
